Objective The dynamic change of monocyte chemoattractant protein-1(MCP-1) and CC chemokine receptor 2(CCR2)in rat artery after balloon injury andtheir effect on intimal proliferation were discussed. Methods On the model of balloon injury of rat aortic artery, the change ofintimal proliferation was observed with optical microscopy and the time course ofMCP-1 and CCR2 were examined with the methods of the RT-PCR andimmunohistochemistry. Results The intimal proliferation could be found in injured arteries.Theexpression of MCP-1 and CCR2mRNA began gradually after balloon injury andMCP-1 reached the peak at the First day,CCR2 reached the peak at the fourteenth day.The expression of MCP-1 protein began to increase gradually after ballooninjury ,were obviously detected in the VSMC at the fourth and seventh day, were obviouslydetected in the proliferating intimal at the fourteenth day. The expression of MCP-1protein was located in the cytoplasm. Conclusion The dynamic change of MCP-1 and CCR2 mRNA after ballooninjury plays an important role in intimal proliferation. The expression of MCP-1 proteinafter balloon injury is concerned with intimal proliferation.
