Objective: To study the relationship between the expressions of Inhibitors of DNAbinding 1 (ID-1), Insulin-like Growth Factor I Receptor (IGF-1R), Ki-67, bcl-2and P53 in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma(ESCC)and relationship amongthem, and to investigate the potential roles of ID-1 and IGF-1R in the carcinogenesisof ESCC and their clinical significance.Method: 118 cases of surgical resected ESCC specimens and 20 cases of normaltissues (sampled far from the tumor, as control) were involved. Immunohistochemicaltechnique was applied to detect the expressions of ID-1,IGF-1R,Ki-67,bcl-2 andP53.Results:ID-1 expression was found in nucleus and cytoplasm of tumor cells andstroma cells near the tumor, while the expression of IGF-1R was found on membrane,bcl-2, on membrane and cytoplasm, and Ki-67 and P53, in nucleus of tumor cells. Thepercentages and intensity of positive immunological reaction of ID-1, IGF-1R, Ki-67,bcl-2 and P53 in ESCC were higher than that in normal tissues. The expressions ofID-1 and bcl-2 showed positively correlated with the histological grade. However, theexpressions of IGF-1R, Ki-67 and P53 show negatively correlated with thehistological grade. No relationship was found between lymph node metastasis and the expressionsof ID-1, Ki-67, bcl-2 or P53 in ESCC tissues, except the expressions of IGR-1R.The expressions of ID-1 was associated with the expressions of bcl-2, while theIGF-1R expression was associated with Ki-67, bcl-2 and P53 expression in ESCC.Conclusion: ID-1 and IGF-1R played important roles in the carcinogenesis of ESCC,ID-1 expression may be involved within the regulation of apoptosis but notproliferation of ESCC cells. IGF-1R was negation correlated with the celldifferentiation and associated with the metastasis of lymph node, which implied it as apotential marker of prognostic evaluation of ESCC.
