Porphyromonas gingivalis and Bacteroides forsythus are putative periodontal pathogens, however, they can be involved in inflam mation of endodontium through several pathway of communication between dental pulp and periodontium .Because Inflammation of endodontium can occur whether a patient has periodontitis or not, study the prevalence of P. gingivalis and B. forsythus in the health may be helpful to understand the role of the two pathogens in the inflammation of endodontium .In this study ,analyzed by the PCR method, we investigated the relationship between the prevalence of P. gingivalis fimA genotypes and B. forsythus in systematically healthy Chinese adults. Dental plaque specimens obtained from 72 periodontally healthy adults. The presence of P. gingivalis was detected in 44 samples (61.1%), while 19 samples (26.4%) is positive for B.forsythus. The distribution of the 5 fimA types among the P. gingivalis-positive healthy adults was follow: type â… , 70.5%;type â…¡ ,2.3%;type â…¢,9.1%; type â…£,6.8%; type â…¤, 29.5%;and untypeable 6.8%.A majority of samples is single-genotype(70.5%), while 22.7% of samples is multi-genotype .There is no statistical difference between the distribution of Porphyromonas gingivalis and B.forsythus.
