Objective: The objectives of the present study are to evaluate the effectiveness of Fei Yi Liu He Ji in treating the lung cancer and to discuss its mechanism in treatment. Methods: The study starts with 78 confirmed primary lung cancer patients who were randomly divided into two groups. 39 patients within the Treated Group were treated with Fei Yi Liu He Ji and chemotherapy together. The other 39 patients within the Controlled Group were treated with chemotherapy only. The clinical therapeutic effects were then observed. Lewis lung carcinoma model in mice was established; the carcinoma-inhibiting rate of Fei Yi Liu He Ji was examined; and the effects of Fei Yi Liu He Ji on the expression cyclinDl in model mice were observed. Results: In the clinical study, the Treated Group showed better than the Controlled Group in symptom betterment, improving the quality of existence, focus stabilization, lasting the time of existence, and weakening cancer and enhancing the effects of treatment. The experimental study suggests that Fei Yi Liu He Ji can obviously decrease the expression of cyclinDl in the carcinoma cells and inhibit the growth of tumor. Conclusions: The findings indicate that Fei Yi Liu He Ji is safe and effective in the combined-modality therapy of lung cancer, and that one of the Lewis lung carcinoma-inhibiting mechanism of Fei Yi Liu He Ji may be decreasing the expression of cyclinDl in the carcinoma cells and halting the growth of the carcinoma cells in the G1 stage, and hence, making them be unable to develop into the S stage for DNA replication.
