Evening Primrose Oil Capsule is a kind of health food mainly composed of Evening Primrose Oil, seed oil of purple common perilla, and vitamin E. The evening primrose oil is rich of γ-linolenic acid, which has been proved presenting the function of downregulating the blood-lipoids, such as triglyceride, cholesterol and β-lipoprotein. Purple common perilla belongs to the labiate, and its seed oil include lots of α-linolenic acid (about 60%). α-and β-linolenic acid are isomer. Both of them are the necessary fatty acid in our body and they all have the potential to downregulate the blood fat. In order to examine the safety of Evening Primrose Oil Capsule in toxicology, a series of tests are performed, including the acute peroral toxicity test in mice, Ames test, PCE micronucleus test in Bone Marrow cells on mice, sperm abnormality test on mice and 30 days feeding test on rat. The results show that: the LD50 value from acute peroral test of the Evening Primrose Oil Capsule is over 21.5g/kg body weight, which is non-toxic according to the standard of acute toxic classification; according to Ames test, Evening Primrose Oil Capsule does not show the heredity toxicity since it can not make the mutant salmonella typhosa back mutation; PCE micronucleus test in Bone Marrow cells on mice is also negative and there is no significant difference compared with negative control. For the cyclophyllidea positive control, the abnormal red blood cells increase dramatically; for the sperm abnormality test on mice, the rate of abnormal sperm in cyclophyllidea positive control group is statistically different from...
