| The genus Cucurbita comprising 27 species is widespreaded in Asia,Europe and America. Many of them are used in folk medicine. Cucurbitapepo cv Dayangua Lu Anmin, a vary species of Cucurbita pepo, was foundat Duolun country of Inner Mongolia. The fruit of it is bitter and poisonous. It was used as folk medicine in treating rheum epidemic, inflammation, pain and diarrhea. Folk veterinarian also used them in treatment of the coldand diarrhea of sheep and the pestilence of chicken.Recently, several studies have been done to elucidate activities of thefruits of Cucurbita pepo cv Dayangua Lu Anmin. The curd extract of thefruits showed inhibitive activity to salmonella, escherichia coli andstaphylococcus aureus of pig and some kinds of virus such as avianinfluenza virus, canine parvovirus, bursal disease virus, newcastle diseasevirus and Bronchitis virus in vitro and in clinical trials. From the evidencesabove we can conclude it is potential to be developed as medicine. Thestudies on the chemical of Cucurbita pepo cv Dayangua Lu Anmin is verylimited. To elucidate the chemical basis of those activities we havedeveloped systemic studies on constituents of fruits of it.This paper primary deals with the studies on the chemical componentsof the fruits Cucurbita pepo cv Dayangua. The dried fruits were extractedwith 70%EtOH then solution was evaporated to dryness under vacuum togive a residue. The residue was repeatedly chromatographed on silica gel,ODS,MIC and Sephadex LH-20,and so on. Twenty compounds wereobtained and the structures of eleven of them were determined on the basisof chemical and spectroscopic evidence. Two new compounds werecharacterized, and they were: Cucurbitaside A(1), Cucurbitalactone A(2). |
