Effect Of Taurine On The Prevention Of Hypertension In Rats

Taurine is a conditionally essential amino acid in human and many animals, which is involved in a variety of biological functions. In recent years, many studies indicated closed relationship between taurine and hypertension, but its preventive effects on hypertension have not been reported .In this experiment, We tried to approach the depressurization mechanism of taurine through observing the change of blood pressure and analyzing a series of parameters concerning hypertension. Finally, we try to give some theoretical evidences to prevent and cure the disease.1. Establishment of hypertension models and detection of rat blood pressure. Method: male Wistar rats were randomly divided into six groups .Group 1 consisted of control animals that received normal diet and tap water. Group 2 consisted of fructose-fed animals, which received normal diet and water containing 20% fructose .Group 3 received normal diet and tap water that contained 20% fructose and 1% taurine . Group 4 received normal diet and tap water that contained 20% fructose and 2% taurine .Group 5 received normal diet and drinking water supplemented with 0.5% taurine . Group 6 received normal diet and drinking water supplemented with 1% taurine. Blood pressure was detected with tail-cuff method every other week. Insulin sensitivity were estimated by insulin sensibility index(ISI). Results: 10 weeks later, blood pressure in group 2 was significantly increased while ISI and weight were significantly lower compared with control group; Blood pressure, ISI and weight in group3,4 keep in a normal range; blood pressure of group 5 obviously decreased than that in group 1. Conclusion: The models were characterized by typical insulin resistance & hypertension, which may provide an advantageous tool for investigations of hypertension. The results indicate that taurine play a very important role on the prevention of hypertension.
