Relationship Between Serum, Aqueous Humor Vegf Level And Neovascularization Of The Iris In Type 2 Diabetes

Objective: Vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) is known as one of the strongest angiogenesis factor, and take very important role in angiogenesis.VEGF alone can cause neovascularization pathological changes in the eyes. The neovascularization of the iris(NVI) caused by diabetes mellitus is one of the serious complication that can cause diabetic blind .The NVI can develope to neovascular glaucoma(NVG) if given improper treatment. In resent year the pathogenesis of NVI is a field that take much concentration. The experiment is to explore the pathogenesis of NVI by detecting the serum and aqueous humor vascular endothelial growth factors(VEGF) level in type 2 diabetes and to provide experimental basis for the early detection ,prevention and treatment of NVI.Methods: The cases come from out-patients and in hospital patients.The patients were divided into 3 groups according to the following standards.Group-A(control group): 25 cases of patient without diabetes, hypertension, nephrosis, proliferative retinopathy and iris neovascularization selected from patients that will take cataract operation in hospital.Group-B(diabetic group): 25 cases of type 2 diabetes without proliferative retinopathy and iris neovascularization selected in the same way;Guoup-C(NVI group): 15 cases of diabetes with NVI in hospital.Group-A and Group-B were taken as non-NVI control groups.Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) was used for detecting serum and aqueous humor VEGF level. All the data were inputed into computer andanalyzed with SPSS for windows 12.0 software.Results: 1. The serum VEGF level are significantly different among the groups, there is not significant different between group-A and group-B (P>0.05). The serum VEGF level in group-C are significantly higher than that of other two group (PO.01).2. The aqueous humor VEGF level are significantly different among the groups(P<0.01)and increase gradually in group-A,B and C. VEGF levels in group-C patients are all higher than 500ng/L.3. The serum VEGF level and the aqueous humour VEGF level are significantly different in anyone of the groups(P<0.01), The aqueous humour VEGF is higher.Conclusion: VEGF plays important role in neovascularization of the iris in type 2 diabetes and to develope NVl the aqueous humour VEGF must increase to a certain level .We can not predict NVl by simple detection of the serum VEGF level.
