Objective The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of Sibelium on regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) with 99mTc-ECD SPECT brain perfusion imaging, and observe the theraputic effect of Sibelium on acute small cerebral infarction. Methods 60 patients with acute small cerebral infarction who fulfilled the criteria of our study were enrolled and were divided into two groups: Sibelium treated group and basical drugs treated group (BT, ST group) randomly. In each group, 99mTc-ECD SPECT brain perfusion imaging, the scores of nervous deficiency and Barthel index was performed before and after drug therapy under the same condition and rCBF changes were compared and analysed with visual and semi-quantitative methods. Results After treatment, various degrees of radioactivity were compared with the pretreatment radioactivity hypoperfusion in patients with small cerebral infarction of ST group , and showed that Sibelium could evidently improved rCBF of regional hypoperfusion. In ST group the posttreatment rCBF was higher than the pretreatment level (t=7.181 , respectively, P<0.01). There was marked differential between the the scores of nervous functional deficiency or Barthel index of pretreatment and that of posttreament in ST group . In addition, in ST group the variation of the rCBF after treatment was positively correlated with the variation of the scores of nervous functional deficiency and Barthel index (Y =0.913 and Y =0.646, P<0.01).Conclusion Sibelium can improve the rCBF of acute small cerebral infarction effectively , lessen the neurological symptom of acute small cerebral infarction and decrease the level of deformity.
