Objectives:Endometrial carcinoma is one of the commonest tumors in female and leads a tendency of gradual increasing. The study of metastasis and prognosis of endometrial carcinoma is still an important thing.During rencent years, many studies of microvessel density (MVD) and P53 in neoplasm of several systems have been performed, and confirm that MVD and P53 are closely correlative with the growth, invasion and prognosis. But the correlation between them in endometrial carcinoma is seldom reported. So MVD and the expression of P53 were detected using immunohistochemical technology in this study. Methods:A total of 47 specimens of endometrial carcinoma were evaluated by immunohistologically staining to detdect factor â…§-related antigen. Microscopic sections are scanned at low magnification to identify areas of greatest density of capillaries. Parallel sections are then stained immunohistochemically with a marker for endothelial cells, and the capillaries are counted to determine the microvascular density (MVD) and the number of vessels per high-power microscopic field. At the same time , the expression of P53 was detected using immunohistological method.Twenty normal endometria were used for control. Results: MVD of endometrial carcinoma was positively correlated with all clinical and pathological index(P <0.01, P<0.05).Expression of protein P53 wassignificantly correlated with tumor grade, surgical stage, mymetrial invasion and lymphnode matastasis (P <0.01, P<0.05). MVD was significantly correlated with expression of protein P53 (P<0.05).Protein P53 expression and MVD can be useful prognosticators of endometrial carcinoma. Between the two parameters, P53 was the more important factor for predicting overall survival than MVD .Condusions:(l)MVD and expression of P53 are correlated with tumor grade, surgical stage, mymetrial invasion and lymphnode matastasis. They may used to predict the metastasis of endometrial cancer.(2)MVD is correlated with P53.It suggest that the mechanism of tumor progress accelerated by P53 may be associated with angiogenesis.(3)Protein P53 and MVD can be the important prognosticators of endometrial carcinoma.
