OBTECTIVE To investigate the therapeutic effect of a small dose of low molecular weight heparin on rats acute respiratory distress syndrome. METHODS 30 rats were divided into 3 group:control group, oleic acide group and heparin-treated group. The changes of PaO2 and PaCO2 were determined at different period after injection and the changes of water contant, coefficient, pathologic and malondialdehyde contand of lungs were examined at 2 hours after injection. RESULT Decrease of PaO2 and increase of PaCO2 in heparin-treated group were slight compared with those in oleic acide group, P<0.01-0.05. Water contant and coefficient of lungs in oleic acide group and heparin-treated group were higher compared with those in control group, P<0.01.Coefficient of lungs in heparin-treated group were lowwer compared with those in oleic acide group, P<0.01. In oleic acide group, alveolar wall showed congestion, edema, necrosis, infiltration of WBC, hemorrhage and edema of alveolar cavity formation of hyaline membrane, while in heparin-treated group, the changes ofalveolar wall and intraalveoli were slight without formation of hyaline membrane. Malondialdehyde contand of lungs in oleic acide group and heparin-treated group were higher compared with those in control group, KO. 01, and malondialdehyde contand of lungs in heparin-treated group were lowwer compared with those in oleic acide group, R0.01. DISCUSSION The low molecular weight heparin play an improtant therapeutic effect on rats with acute respiratory distress syndrome.
