The roots of Indigofera have been used as main substitutes fortraditional Chinese drug "ShanDouGen"in many provinces of China suchas Shanxi, Henan, Hubei, Anhui, and usually called"Mu-Lan-Shan-Dou-Gen".In this thesis, we studied the chemical constitutes of the roots ofIndigofera carlesii Craib (Leguminosae) which is one of the mainresources of "Mu-Lan-Shan-Dou-Gen". Eleven Compounds were isolatedand separated from the alcohol extracts of the roots of Indigofera carlesiiCraib (Leguminosae) by solvent extraction, silica gel columnchromatography and re-crystallization. On the basis of various modernspectral analysis(IR,FAB-MS,1HNMR,13CNMR,DEPT,1H-1HCOSY,HSQC,HMBC) and classical chemical methods, structures of ninecompounds were determined as 3-nitropropionic acid (ICE-C1),coronarian (ICE-C5), corollin (ICE-C2), lupeol (ICE-C4), betulinic acid(ICE-C3), β–sitosterol (ICP-1), daucosterol (ICE-C6a), stigmasterol–3-O–glucopyranoside (ICE -C6b), succinic acid (ICE-C7). CompoundsICE-C1, ICE-C2, ICE-C4, ICE-C5 were first isolated from I. carlesii, andcompounds ICE-C3, ICP-1, ICE-C6a, ICE-C6b and ICE-C7 were obtainedfrom Indigofera for the first time. Compounds ICE-C1, ICE-C2, ICE-C5,ICE-1a and ICE-1b could be responssible for the toxicity of I. CarlesiiCraib. In this thesis, we also summarized the studies on chemical constitutesand bioactivities of Indigofera species and the structural andspectrometric characters of the 3-propanoyl acid derivatives from plantsand insects.
