Histopathologic Type Analysis Of 637 Ovarian Masses With Diameter Less Than 5cm

Objective: To investigate the histopathologic types of the ovarian masses with diameter less than 5cm.Methods: The ovarian masses ≤ 5 cm were resected and identified by histopathologic diagnosis. All the masses were analyzed by retrospective review.Results: 323 ovarian tumors(50.71%) and 314 ovarian tumor like conditions (49.29%) were found. Among these cases,there were 297 benign ovarian tumors (46.62%), 23 malignant ovarian tumors (3.61%), 3 borderline tumors (0.47%).Conclusion: Among all the ovarian masses with diameter less than 5cm, there are mostly ovarian tumors and ovarian tumor like conditions.These ovarian tumor like conditions,for example,follicular cyst,lutein cyst,ovarian luteinizing cysts,follicle cyst, paraovari -an cyst and inclusion cysts of the ovary(44.27%)shouldn't be treated.However they should be put more emphasis to follow up.
