Objective To observe the physiochemical properties and calcification resistance of the bovine jugular conduits with valves stabilized by dye-mediated photo-oxidation provide the theoretical basis for clinical application and seek better biological-materical for RVOT reconstruction. Methods Twenty-four bovine jugular conduits with valves were divided into 3 groups and treated with dye-mediated photo-oxidation(Group â… ), glutaraldehyde (Group â…¡)and untreated group (Group â…¢) respectively. Morphologic and physiochemical properties of the 3 groups, including wall thickness, diameter, anti-reflow ability of valves, tissue water content .breaching strength and tissue protein content were studied . Pieces of I and II groups were implanted in back of SD rats . 30 days later, calcium concent analysis, hisologic examination and eletron miscroscopy were carried out .Results here was nodifference in wall thickness, diameter, anti-reflow ability of valves, tissue water content between Group â… and III(P>0.05) , but there was significant difference between Group I and â…¡ . the breaching strength of Group â… was higher than that of Group â…¢ (P<0.05) ,but lower than that of Group â…¡ (P<0.05) . A decrease in tissue protein content was found in Group â… and â…¡ . The tissue calciumcontent of Group I was obviously lower than that of Group II(P<0.001). Pathohistologic examinations demonstrated a prominent intrinsic collagen disruption in the Group II .Conclusions The dye-mediated photo-oxidation can effectively preserve the tissue stability and reduce the calcification .
