In order to ascertain the toxic effect and anti-mutation effect of grape Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins(GOPC) that was obtained by using special craft, we conducted a series of tests, among of which acute oral toxicity test, mice bone marrow cell micronucleus test, mice sperm abnormality test, Ames test and 30 days feeding study were used to study toxic effect and revised mice bone marrow cell micronucleus test, Ames test, mice testicle chromosome aberration test were used to study effect of anti-mutation and possible mechanism. Result of research indicated that GOPC not only showed no any toxic effect, but also induced mutation in vivo and in vitro. Further study found that in spite of adding or not adding S9 mixtures, GOPC could display inhibiting effect on mutation of bacterial strains of TA98 and TA100 that induced by substance with ability to induce mutation. What's more, different dosed of GOPCcan obviously antagonize the frequency of micronucleus in mice bone marrow cell, implying that GOPC has effect of antagonizing mutation.
