Objective To investigate the expression of PTEN and Ki-67 protein in the ovarian carcinoma and their relationship.Method The expression of PTEN and Ki-67 protein in 64 cases of epithelial ovarian cancer,30 cases of benign ovarian cystoadenoma and 20 cases of normal ovarian tissue were detected by S-P immunohistochemical method. Results In the normal ovarian and benign ovarian cystoadenoma tissue, the positive rate of PTEN protein (90%,80%) were higher than those in the ovarian cancer tissue(56.2%). The positive rate of PTEN protein was lower in G3 group (38.9%) than that in G1-G2 group(78.5%) , P < 0.05 . PTEN protein expression varied between different clinical stages , the expression level of stage III group (46.2%) was lower than that of stage I - II group (100%) , P < 0.05 .While the positive rate of Ki-67 was higher in G3 group (100%) than that in G1-G2 group(64.3%) , P < 0.05 . The positive rate of Ki-67 in stage III group (92.3%) was higher than that of stage I - II group (50%) , P < 0.05 . There was no different expression between different histological types or age. In the ovarian cancer, there was negative correlation between expression of PTEN and Ki-67 protein (r = -0.594); In unvaried analysis, the expression of PTEN protein and Ki-67 were associated with survival of ovarian cancer. Conclusion PTEN protein expression in ovarian cancer was low , expression level of PTEN protein and Ki-67 were associated with histological stage , clinic stage and survival. PTEN has correlation with Ki-67, which suggests that PTEN protein may suppress the tumor through down-regulate cell proliferation.
