Osteoarthritis of the knee(KOA) is a rock-ribbed disease which imperils many people and hurts the old people much more serious, but there is no specific way to cure it. In this paper, the mechanism of electrical therapy for KOA in theory is studied. The energy of electromyography (EMG) is selected as the wavelet transform-based eigenvalue to analyse the curative effect of KOA. According to this theory, a portable OA-kneepad is accomplshed for the OA sufferer specially, and a evaluating system based on EMG is designed for the curative effect of KOA. The main research works in this paper are as follows: (1) Introduced basic knowledge of KOA. Studied the mechanism and theory of electrical therapy for KOA and treated EMG as the assistant diagnostic method for KOA. (2) Introduced the wavelet analysis briefly. Studied the de-noising analysis for EMG signal based on wavelet transform. (3) Selected energy of electromyography (EMG) as the wavelet transform-based eigenvalue and analysed the curative effect of KOA . (4) Designed a portable OA-kneepad based on PIC16F630 and a evaluating system based on EMG for the curative effect of KOA. (5) Done clinic experiments to validate the curative effect of OA-kneepad and the feasibility for energy of EMG as the eigenvalue, to evaluate the curative effect of KOA.
