ObjectiveThrough observing the changes of surface EMG of gastrocnemius while heel-lifting with burden by healthy volunteers, combining the changes of the heart rate and abdominal breathing frequency, this experiment aimed to study the process of recovery from fatigue and the impact of local acupuncture. The study used wavelet, mathematical microscope, to analyse the surface EMG data to verify the validity of relieving fatigue by local acupuncture. Further more, the study on surface EMG of the gastrocnemius could help to clarify the mechanism of balancing yin and yang, reinforcing insufficiency and reducing excessiveness and shows an experimental basis to study the clinical effect of acupuncture.MethodTwenty healthy volunteers who came from the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine were selected. All of them were healthy, no musle injury and intense physical activity in 2 weeks. Through demonstrating and explaning, they were were all understanding the objective of the experiment and the operating essentials, and signed on the informed consent form. After body warming, volunteers stood on feet of natural open with a 30kg barbell on shoulder. And then, lift the heel upright and held 1 second at the highest point. According to the RPE table to determine exercise-induced fatigue occurred, the volunteers were needled(the point of chengjin) for the first time. Four weeks later, the volunteers only need to natual rest after fatigue occurred for the second time. The data of surface EMG, heart rate and abdominal breathing frequency were collected for statistical treatment.Result1 Comparing before and after fatigue occurred, the LF/HF value of sEMG of the gastrocnemius were all obviously different (P<0.05) in acupuncture group and non-acupuncture group. The amount of the LF/HF value increased in the two groups was not obviously different (P>0.05)2 Comparing before fatigue occurred and after acupuncture therapy or rest, the LF/HF value of sEMG of the gastrocnemius were all obviously different (P<0.01) in acupuncture group and non-acupuncture group. The amount of the LF/HF value increased in the two groups was obviously different (P<0.05)3 Comparing before and after acupuncture therapy or rest, there was obvious differences of the changes of heart rate (P<0.01) both in acupuncture group and non-acupuncture group; There was no difference(P>0.05) between the two groups while the amount of changes of heart rate before and after acupuncture therapy or rest.4 Comparing before and after acupuncture therapy or rest, there was no obvious differences of the changes of abdominal breathing frequency (P>0.05) both in acupuncture group and non-acupuncture group; There was no difference(P>0.05) between the two groups while the amount of changes of abdominal breathing frequency before and after acupuncture therapy or rest.Conclusion1 The LF/HF value of sEMG turn to increase when the musles fatigue occoured.2 Local acupuncture therapy could relieve muscle fatigue and reduce the amount of LF/HF value of sEMG increase than natural rest.3 Heart rate increased when muscle fatigue occurred. Both local acupuncture therapy and natual rest could slow the heart rate, but effect could not be proved that acupuncture was significantly better than natrual rest4 This experiments could not be proved that muscle fatigue affected the frequency of abdominal breathing frequency.5 In the evaluation of acupuncture effect and the studies on explaining the mechanism of acupuncture, LF/HF value of surface EMG is one of the objective indicators that can be used.
