Objectives: To investigate the extraintestinal manifestations (EMIs) and complications of Crohn's disease (CD) with the inpatients admitted to the first affiliated hospital of Zhejiang University in China.Materials and Methods: Data was collected retrospectively from 88 patients with CD hospitalized in the first affiliated hospital of Zhejiang University. We analyzed the prevalence of EMIs and complications of CD and the correlation between them. Of 88 patients with CD, 53 were males and 35 females (1.5∶ l).Mean age was 38.1 years (range between 15~76). Only 1(1.1%) patients had a family history of CD. 28 (31.8%) patients had EIMs. 7 (8%) patients had multiple extraintestinal diseases. The most frequent associations were co-existing oral and joint manifestations. Thyroid disease was found in 3 cases. One was Hashimoto's thyroiditis, one was thyroid nodules, the other was papillary carcinoma of thyroid. 42 (47.7%) patients had complications, and 11(12.5%) had multiple complications. Stenosis was the most common one . The correlation of EIMs between complication and no complication group showed no statistical significance (p>0.05).Conclusions: This study shows that the prevelece of EIMs in Chinese CD population is similar to western reports, but there are some differences withcomplications. The race and geographic differences may give important clues to aetiology of CD.
