Objective:To observe the serum matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9)and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1(TIMP-1) levels in patients with Coronary Heart Diseas ,and to evaluate the role of MMP-9, TIMP-1 and MMP-9/ TIMP-1 in the pathogenesis of coronary atherosclerotic and the clinical significance of measurement. Methods:The levels of serum MMP-9 and TIMP-1 were measured by ELISA in 30 normal control group and 90 cases with coronary heart disease including 30 cases acute myocardial infarction group, 30 cases unstable angina group and 30 cases stable angina group, and serum C-reactive protein with other markers were measured to analyze their relationship. Results: The levels of MMP-9 an d TIMP-1 were markedly elevated in coronary heart disease group than in normal control group (P<0. 05), There were remarkably positive correlations between MMP-9 and MMP-9/TIMP-1, CRP, LDL-C(P<0.05), while TIMP-1 was correlated positively with MMP-9/ TIMP-1, CRP, LDL-C(P<0.05). Conclusions:The MMP-9 and TIMP-1 are critically involved in the development of coronary heart disease, and the increased serum MMP-9 and TIMP-1 levels in CHD patients are related to the severity of coronary heart disease, and the levels of MMP-9 , TIMP-1 and MMP-9/ TIMP-1 have certain reference value in the diagnosis and prevention.
