Objective As a method of mass nutritional improvement and promotion, nutrition education is an important way to instruct people's balanced diet and led a healthy life style. Nutrition education plays an important role in increasing nutritional knowledge, changing attitude to nutrition and diet habit. Adopting the nutritional education method that is suitable to people's knowledge of food and nutrition can significantly improve the effect of nutritional education. Therefore, it is practical for implementing food and nutrition education, improving people's food and nutrition conditions, promoting public food and nutrition improvement program, and enhance people's constitution to understand people's eating habits, their knowledge of nutrition and food hygiene, their understanding of the relationship between food and disease, where their current knowledge of nutrition and food has come from , and whether they need the knowledge of nutrition and food.Content The investigation includes people's eating habits, their knowledge of nutrition and food hygiene, their understanding of the relationship between food and disease , where their current knowledge of nutrition and food has come from , and whether they need the knowledge of nutrition and food in the city of Tianjin. The investigation of people's eating habits is to find out how many people's eating habits is coincident with Chinese balanced diet tower. The qualified mark of nutrition and food hygiene knowledge and awareness of the relationship between food and disease is decided by answering 50% or more than 50% questions correctly.Methods The survey was conducted using a "stratified multi-stage random". The sample districts (counties) are selected by people's averaged GDP, that is economic advanced areas, economic normal areas, and economicdisadvantage areas. First, according to systemic sampled method, randomly select 2 districts (counties) from every scale economic areas, total is 6 selected districts (counties);second, randomly select 2 villages and towns(streets) from every selected districts (counties);third , randomly select 2 hamlet(habitation committee) from every selected villages and towns(streets);fourth, randomly select 50 doors manhood residents, total is 1200 doors. The participants is selected from 1200 doors according to their birth be closest to investigation date. The total number of participants was 1206 aged between 18 and 69(average is44±14.8) . 605 were male and 601 were female.Results Of all the people surveyed, not one diet is consistent with the Chinese balanced diet tower. The qualified that is consistent with the Chinese balanced diet tower of single eating vegetable, fruit, meat and meat seafood, egg product, milk product, bean product is34. S%s 30.6%> 19. 6%s 8.1%, 17.9%, 27. 7%.. 7.1%. Nutrition and food hygiene knowledge: not one answers completely correct The qualified number is 726 (qualified rate is 60.2%). The qualified rate is various in different areas, culture degrees , occupations and ages. The qualified rate in city is higher than suburb, higher degree culture people is higher than lower degree culture people. In different occupation people, the highest qualified rate is high and middle -class manager in large-scale corporation, the lowest qualified rate is individual business person. The qualified rate in middle-old aged people is higher. Food and disease knowledge: there are 43 people answer all questions correctly. The qualified number is 1055 (qualified rate is 87.5%). The qualified rate is various in different culture degrees and occupations. Higher education, higher qualified rate. In different occupation people, the highest qualified rate is among the department managers, the lowest qualified rate is among jobless persons. The sources and need about food and nutrition knowledge: The sources of people's food and nutrition knowledge are television (77.8%), newspaper (66.1%), magazine (36.20%), broadcast (33.0%), Internet (6.2%). Most of the population (81.5%) are interested in learning more about food and nutrition, somepeople (17.3%)are indifferent in learning more about food and nutrition, the others(1.2%) believe it is needless to learn more about food and nutrition. The nutritionknowledge that people most want to learn is nutrition and disease(73.9%) .balanced diet (56.4%), mal nutrition (22.1 %) ,and other knowledge(4.4%) .The most ideal ways of nutrition education are television (87.7%) ,broadcast (44.8%), magazine (30.8%), other ways (29.9%) .Conclusions In general, the eating habits of the people of Tianjin was not found to be satisfactory. Knowledge about food and nutrition of population is different by area, education, occupations, ages, economy. Most people are interested in learning more about food and nutrition. More effort should be put into education of the population and spread knowledge of nutrition and food, in order to improve people's diet habit. A method of spread and education of food and nutrition that are consistent with the situation of Tianjin population should be established. Adopting the nutritional education method that is suitable to people's diet habit, knowledge of food and nutrition can significantly improve the effect of nutritional education.
