Objective: To determine respectively VEGF gene protein and P21 gene protein in the far tissues of oesphageal carcinoma and in the different phasiologic types and the different TNM stage of oesphageal squamous carcinoma. To investigate the relationship of VEGF and P21 protein in the oesphageal carcinoma and the dependence of them.Method:VEGF, P21 protein expression in 48 cases of human oesophageal squamous carcinoma were examined immunohistochemically by using anti-VEGF antibody and anti-P21 antibody.Result: 1.Positive staining rate of VEGF in human oesophageal squamous carcinoma was 45.83%.VEGF positively correlatived with the histologic types of esophageal carcinoma (p<0.05), TNM stage, depth of invasion (p<0.01), lymph node metastasis (p<0.01).The positive expression of VEGF protein gradually rose up in company with the clinicopathological feature, invading depth and metastasis of lymph node. But their relation to patients' age and gender was not significant.2. Positive staining rate of P21 in human oesophageal squamous carcinoma was 31.25 %, P21 protein negatively correlatived with the histologic types (p<0.05), lymph node metastasis (p<0.05),TNM stage(p<0.05).Its expression was fallen in company with the elevation of the grade malignency of tumor. But their relation to patients' age and gender, depth of invasion was not significant(P>0.05).3.The positive expression of P21 protein was lowered accompanied by theelevation of VEGF protein expression. They had negative relationship. Conclusion: VEGF protein expression can accelerate their growth, depth of invasion and metastasis in esophageal carcinoma. Their expression foreshow the patients' bad prognosis.3. The expression of VEGF gene protein and p21 gene protein in esophageal carcinoma have relativity to a certainty.4. Detection of VEGF, P21 protein expression may be useful in assessing the development, judging prognosis and selecting clinical therapy.
