Lung tumor is a kind of diseases with an increasing incidence and death rate nowadays. Thereinto lung cancer is the dominant and the most popular splanchnic malignant tumor. And it is one of the most dangerous cancers with the lowest chance to survive after being diagnosed as well. The size of tumor is an important measure in lung cancer examination and evaluation. At present, it is common that doctors mark the tumor's edge in a 2-dimensional slice film manually and use the maximal diameter in horizontal and/or vertical extent to describe the size of the tumor. However, practically, the real size of the tumor should be measured by the volume of the tumor or its diameter in 3-dimensional space. That's to say, we should measure the size of the tumor in 3-D space. So the precise measurement to lung tumor based on 3-dimensional reconstruction is of good sense for setting down therapy schema, evaluating therapy validity, monitoring the growth and recrudescence of the tumor and estimating the effect of the antitumor drug.In this paper, we first analyzed the character of the CT image of lung tumor. Then reviewed the methods and algorithm related to each step in 3-dimensional reconstruction. From this base, we investigated and validated the specific strategy to reconstruct and measure lung cancer in 3-dimension. And realized the measurement of lung cancer based on 3-D reconstruction, which including:Characterizing lung cancer's CT imageRevising each step of 3-D reconstruction, including: pre-process of CT image, segmentation of lung cancer and its depiction and display methodAnalyzing 3-dimensional interaction involved in the measurement of the diameter of tumor, including: interactive picking up and rotationRealizing 3-dimensional reconstruction of lung cancer based on ITK and VTK library and the measurement of the diameter between any two points in 3-dimension.Through the doctors' clinic practice, the precise measuring strategy suggested in this paper is of feasibility.
