As an important part of image processing,The 3D reconstruction of vertebral CT images can not only help the doctor to diagnose the diseases more quickly and accurately,but also lay the foundation for the practical operation and teaching research of clinical medicine.Especially in the pedicle screw implant surgery,it is an urgent problem that accurate and real-time three-dimensional reconstruction of vertebrae,and it has very important research significance.Aiming at the problem of long reconstruction time,low precision and smoothness of vertebral model,a 3D method of vertebral CT image based on Marching Cubes surface rendering theory is proposed.Firstly,we study the vertebral CT images preprocessing methods.The experimental analysis are carried out base on the theory,and the Histogram Equalization,the bilateral filtering denoising method and Laplacian sharpening based on feature selection are determined as the preprocessing methods,these methods can effectively improve images quality.Secondly,we extract the interest region of the vertebra CT images,we improve the algorithm on the basis of the traditional Marching Cubes,the seed voxels are selected,feature is extracted by texture information,then we use the region growing algorithm to extract all the voxels that contain isosurfaces,it significantly reduces the number of traversing voxels.Thirdly,the isosurface calculation process is optimized,for the calculation of the median points in the characteristic voxels,the golden segmentation instead of the traditional linear interpolation to reduce the number of calculations for common edges.Finally,we use the visualization toolkit(VTK)to implement the 3D reconstruction of the vertebral CT images on Graphics Processing Unit(GPU)quickly and accurately.In order to verify the performance of the whole vertebral 3D reconstruction algorithm,the algorithm is tested on the vertebral CT images provided by the cooperative hospital under the VTK platform.The results show that the proposed algorithm based on improved Marching Cubes algorithm is superior to other reconstruction algorithms in terms of speed and accuracy,the algorithm has reached a relatively high level in overall performance.
