Objective: Electrical stimulation of the frontal nerves was realized to model a new migraine in the rat. The variations of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and substance P (SP) in jugular plasma, pontine nucleus of trigeminal nerve and nucleus of spinal trigeminal trace were detected with radioimmunoassy(RIA) before and after botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) injected subcutaneously into areas distributed with trigeminal nerve. The aim of the study is to investigate the mechanism of BTX-A treating migraine. Methods: (1) 15 male SD rats were divided randomly into 3 groups, control group (A group, n=5), migraine model group triggered by electrical stimulation of the frontal nerves (B group, n=5) and migraine model group triggered by nitroglycerin injected subcutaneously (C group, n=5). After migraine performance, symptoms of migraine were evaluated, the content of CGRP and SP in jugular plasma, pontine nucleus of trigeminal nerve and nucleus of spinal trigeminal trace was detected with RIA. (2) 20 male SD rats were divided randomly into control group (control, n=5) and migraine model...
