Radix Phytolacca acinosa, widely distributed in many places ofChina, is known as a kind of Chinese traditional tonic herb and hasmany important biological activities, such as diuresis, eliminatingphlegm, anti-inflammatory action, antibiosis, anti-virus, anti-tumorand so on. The constituents in Radix Phytolacca acinosa includetriterpenoid sanponins, polsaccharides, amino acides, etc.Although the chemical structure and pharmacologic action ofRadix Phytolacca acinosa have been researched profoundly, there islittle research on its anti-tumor activity which is used to cure a lot ofkinds of tumors in the folk. We used the method of vitroantineoplasmic activity to trail the component of anti-tumor. Wecarried out some research on the isolation of Radix Phytolaccaacinosa and the antineoplasmic activity of the components in theRadix Phytolacca acinosa.Our research included several aspects. First, we reviewedchemical constituents and biological activities of Radix Phytolaccaacinosa. Second, through using solvent extraction, SG columnchromatography and ODS column chromatography were 5compounds isolated from Radix Phytolacca acinosa. The structuresof these compounds are elucidated by physico-chemical constants andspectroscopic analysis. They are: 3-O-β-D-xylopyraose-2-hydroxylacinosolic acid-30-methyl ester;3-O-(β-D-glucopyranose-β-D-xylopyraose)-acinosolic acid-30-methyl ester;3-O-( β -D-glucopyranose-β -D-xylopyraose) -2-hydroxyl acinosolicacid-30-methyl ester;3-O-(β-D-glucopyranose-β-D-xylopyraose)-2-hydroxyl-30-methyl ester-28-O-β-D-glucopyranose ombuoside;3-O-(β-D-glucopyranose-β-D-xylopyraose) -30-methyl ester-28-O-β-D -glucopyranose ombuoside. Thirdly we used the method ofvitro antineoplasmic activity and successfully had trailed thecomponent of anti-tumor that it is 3-O-β-D-xylopyraose-2-hydroxylacinosolic acid-30-methyl ester.
