While spiral CT was rapidly developed with the continuousimprovement of software and hardware and with the realization ofthin-slice and rapid scanning techniques ,the images of two–dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction havebeen better especially after multi-slice CT was successfully invented .These images can provide the clinical colleagues with spatial andanatomic information in detail. The technique of 2D and 3Dreconstruction with spiral CT has become a powerful modality forevaluation of the bone and joint trauma. Objective: to discuss the clinical application of MPR, SSD andVR techniques with 16-MSCT in diagnosis of bones and jointstuauma. Materials and method: 60 cases of trauma which include tibialplateau fracture (29 cases), acetabular trauma (16 cases), both of tibialplateau and acetabular trauma (7cases) and spine trauma (8 cases)were examed with GE lightspeed 16 slice CT and DR . In these casesthere are 39 cases males and 21 cases females with 19-78 years old(mean is 39.5 years old) . After examed with 16-MSCT, these datawere reconstructed in workstation with MPR, SSD andVRTtechniques. Result: For 60 cases of fractures, the fracture quantity of DR,axial images, MPR, SSD and VR was 153, 192, 195, 166 and 172.Fracture detection rate of X-ray, axial MPR,SSD and VR were 78.5%,98.5%, 100%, 85.1% and 88.2%. DR misclassified 20 cases thatinclude 8 cases of tibial plateau fracture, 8 cases of acetabular traumaand 4 cases of spine trauma. The difference of fracture detectionquantity with SSD and DR was not statistically significant (P>0.05),but the fracture detection quantity with axial images, MPR and VRwas statistically different to that with DR (P<0.05). The findings inclassifying fracture with axial images, MPR, SSD and VR werestatistically different to that with DR (P,0.05).Conclusion: The MPR and VR techniques showed advantagesover DR in detecting fractures. Scanning of 16-MSCT and MPR,SSD,VR techniques are important for the diagnosis and treatment ofthe bones and joins fracture.
