Ojective: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) has become the most critical complication of diabetes. It is increasing in prevalence. In the advanced countries, DN accounts for about 40% ~50% of new cases of end stage renal disease (ESRD). Renal hypertrophy is an early important pathological feature of renal diseases such as diabetic nephropathy. Most studies have certificated that the degree of renal hypertrophy play a key role in the renal fibrosis of ESRD. Connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) is a newly clarified fibrogenic factor, which has been shown increasing expression in many fibrotic renal diseases or hypertrophic renal disease. More recently studies have indicate that statins can restrain the renal hypertrophy and renal fibrosis. What's the potential mechanism of statins is still an interested subject, which has not been profoundly investigated so far. How about the relationship between the CTGF and DN? The present study was to investigate the possible role among the stains, CTGF and DN.Methods: All female SD rats were divided into 2 groups randomly: normal control rats (NC group) and test rats. All groups were fed with normal diet for two weeks. Then after an overnight fast, STZ 60mg/kg was injected intraperitoneally.
