Bear bile is the drainage gallbladder of Selenarctos thibetanus Cuvier or Ursus arctos Linnaeus belonging to the family of bear animal. It possesses the efficacy for clearing heat and detoxifying, cooling heart and pacifying liver, bebefitting bile and brighting eye etc.. Bear bile power, the drainage bile drawing from the Selenarctos thibetanus Cuvier by operation, usually substitutes for bear bile in clinic.On the base of summarize, it is the first time to build up the fingerprint chromatography of bear bile power and to determine the mainly content of Taurocherodeoxycholic acid and Tauroursodeoxycholic acid. The evaluation method of quality was established .By comparison of fingerprint chromatography from Heibao successive 10 lot number in a month and 12 months bear bile power, it was proved that fingerprint chromatography of bear bile power from Heibao were basically similar. Similarity computing showed that most of the similarity reached above 0.9, proved that Heibao bear bile power content consistently and quality steady. The chromatography can be used as a specialized quality control for Heibao bear bile power. But by comparison of fingerprint chromatography from 9 producing areas, similarity computing showed that similarity not very well. Only matched 7 commom peaks much less than Heibao, the quanlity differed greatly. The results showed that it was necessary to contract the herb producing area, to control the quality for bear bile power.Through determination of two mainly ingredients of bear bile power, it was found that the content of Taurocherodeoxycholic acid and Tauroursodeoxycholic acid from Heibao were evidently higher than those other producing areas. The quality of Heibao bear bile power is better than the other 8.
