| The mechanism of post traumatic epilepsy (PTE) is unclear. Contusion or cortical laceration causes extravasation of red blood cells, with hemolysis and deposition of hemoglobin within the neuropil, iron liberated from hemoglobin and transferrin, sequestered as hemosiderin, thought to be the key factor of the PTE. Addition of iron salts or heme compounds to solutions containing polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) or to suspensions of subcellular organelles results in the formation of highly reactive free radical oxidants. Ferritin (Ft) and transferrin (Tf) are two proteins that closely correlate to the iron metabolism. However, there are few studies about the two proteins in the brain of PTE patient. In this study, we eatablished rat models of PTE, by using the method of enzyme-linked immunosorbentassay (ELISA),we detected the contents of Ft and Tf in the brain of rat model and researched the role of Ft and Tf in the genesis of PTE.Establish the rat model of PTEWe established the rat models of PTE according to the method proposed by Willmore in 1978. There are two standards to judge whether the model established is successful: one is that the rat appeared typical seizures, another is that there are epileptic discharges on the rat electroencephalogram (EEG). In this study, all the rat models appeared typical seizures. Epileptic seizure manifestation appeared as turnover upspring and limbs convulsion. All rats... |
