Intestinal tract is one of the most important target organs of radiation injury. Radiation injury of intestinal includes injury of epithelium and intestinal mucosal immunity . Bing activated in the phase of proliferation ,epithelium is hypersensitive to radiation. After radiation injury, there is apoptosis of epithelium ,falls of intestinal mucosal ,which cause loss of intestinal barrier ,followed mass body fluid loss, and electrolyte disturbances.At the same time , radiation cause reduction of crypt stem cell inhibits epithelial proliferation,and make epithelial recovery difficulty. The injury to intestinal mucosal immunity ,in addition to increased intestinal permeability, allows bulk of intestinal toxic substance to enter blood and displacement of intestinal bacterium causing,pyemia ,followed by multi-organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS).The latter is the main cause which is responsible for the failure of salvagtion of acute rediationsickness. Intestinal epithelium bear loset relationship with mucosal immunity by the way of secretion of cytokines and tight contact between cells. Intestinal mucosal immunity has important influence on the proliferation of epithelium.Gut original infection after severe trauma is attract more and more attention.Intesetinal injury of the patient accepting chemotherapy and radiation treatment becomes important.Facing these fact,we have explored new approaches to promote recovery of intestinal epithelium after intestinal injury.Interleukin-11 is a multi-functional cytokine .It's functions includes promotion hematopoiesis, protection epithelium,and immunoregulation. So, Interleukin-11 has multi-function in curing intestinal radiation injury.The studies in the past main focused on hematopoietic function, At present our knowledge of epithelium and immunoregulatory process is still incomplete ,and the mechanisms are unknown.The interaction between IEL and epithelium are unknown,paticular in the field of intestinal radiation injury.
