Objective: to analyze the morbidity and mortality and eval uate the measures regarding prevention and treatment of complications after pancreaticoduodenectomy(PD).Methods: A total of 177 patients receiving PD in our housepital from 1995 to 2005 were divided into 2 groups based on the different time when they were subjected to the operation.The morbidity and mortality were compared in the 2 groups.Results: postoperative complication occure in 73 patients(41.2%).Of these patients 22(12.4%) died.The probability of complications and death decreased significantly in recent 6 years.Conclusions: PD is a procedure that only can be grasped by those surgeons who have gained a certain time of good surgical training. The operator's experience refined operation and pre—and postoperative intensive care are very important for reducing occurring rate of postoperative complications and mortality.
