Trichinellosis is a serious parasitic zoonosis caused by the nematode of Trichinella spiralis which can infect human being and more than 150 species of other mammals. It is estimated that 11 million people in the word are infected by Trichinella. More than 10 000 cases of human trichinellosis were reported by the International Commission on Trichinellosis (ICT) from 1995 to 1997. It has not been controlled efficiently and regarded as re-emerging disease. Trichinellosis not only harms to human bodies but also causes great loss in livestock industry and pork trade. A lot of immunodiagnostic methods for trichinellosis have been carried out at home and abroad, such as Indirect Fluorescene Antibody Assay and Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay et al, But these methods are all complex to perform with requirement of special skill, reagent or equipment. So it is necessary to develop a quick and easy way to detect Trichinlla spiralis not only for food assays but for international meat trade and people's health. In this study , the rapid diagnostic strip was developed for the serological or muscle juice detection of trichinellosis. In the strip, the staphylococcal protein A (SPA) labelled with colloidal gold was used as the detector, the Trichinella spiralis muscle larval excretory-secretory (ES) antigens were blotted on the nitrocellulose membrane for the test line. For SPA has the capacity of binding to the Fc fragment of IgG of human and many other mammals, the strip is therefore an acceptable alternative to be used to human serological detection as well as to many other mammals sera and muscle juice for routine screening of trichinellosis.
