ObjectiveTo investigate the esophageal function and laryngeal signs in globus hystericus and determine if significant relation existed between globus and UES pressure. MethodsThirty-five healthy volunteers and forty-two patients clinically diagnosed as globus hystericus entered the study. The pressure of UES and the rate of UES relaxation were measured by Medtrontic Esophageal Manometry system . The larynx was examined using videolaryngoscopy. ResultsThe mean of UES resting pressure was 47.54±9.52 mmHg in control group. The corresponding value in the patients was 65.31±15.02mmHg . The mean of the rate of UES relaxation was 92.2±1.6% in control group. The corresponding value in the patients was 91.2±2.5%. The mean of UES total length was 3.38±0.25cm in control group. In the patient group, the mean of UES total length was 3.58±0.30cm. There was statistical difference of UES pressure between the two groups. There was statistical difference of the rate of UES relaxation between the two groups. There was no statistical difference of UES total length between the two groups. The most frequent laryngeal findings in the globus group were...
