| Objective To investigate the mechanisms of corneal haze after laser epithelial keratomileusis ,and to assess the effects of mitomycin C and fluorometholone on haze after laser epithelial keratomileusis. Methods Thirty pigmented rabbits were divided into four groups, three rabbits Served as normal controls ;the others underwent bilateral 193nm excimer laser epithelial keratomileusis to correct -10.00 Diopters of myopia. 54 eyes were allocated randomly to be treated with 0.02% mitomycin C during operation,or 0.1% Fluorometholone after operation, or no medical treatment as control. Comparative studies on haze were made periodically after operation with slit-lamp microscope.Rabbits were killed at 1 week,1 month and 2 months respectively, corneas were prepared for H.E.staining and immunohistochemical SABC staining of transforming grown factor- β 1 (TGF- β1), α -smooth muscle actin( α -SMA)and Ki-67; histopathologic examinations with transmission electron microscope were also made. Results 1.At 1 week ,1 month and 2 months after operation, the corneal haze was significantly less in mitomycin C group than that in the control group(P<0.05).At 1 week after operation, Fluorometholone group's haze was significantly less than the control group(P<0.05), But the difference of haze between Fluorometholone group and the control group was insignificant at 1 month and 2 months (P>0.05).2.
