Objective: To observe the protective effect of Valsartan and Salvia Miltiorrhiza on the kidney of diabetic rats, and to study their possible mechanisms. Methods: Fifty adult male Wistar rats were divded randomly into five groups:,normal contral group, diabetic untreated group, diabetic group treated orally with Valsartan(20mg/kg/d),diabetic group treated orally with Salvia Miltiorrhiza(3g/kg/d),diabetic group treated orally with Valsartan(20mg/kg/d) and Salvia Miltiorrhiza(3g/kg/d). The diabetic rats were induced by a single intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin. At the end of 12 week, the rats of each group were sacrificed. Plasma glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin(HbAlc), urinary albumin excretion(UAE), urinary β1-MG excretion, creatinine clearance (Ccr) were determined. Indothelin-1(ET-l) lever in plasma, urinary and renal tissue were measured. Serum and urnary transforming growth factor-beta 1(TGF- β1) concentration were measured. The average volume...
