Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is the single most important factor leading to adult End Stage Renal Disease(ESRF) in the world. DN encompasses a myriad of structural and functional changes in the kidney: renal hyperfiltration, renal and glomerular hypertrophy, mesangial cell hypertrophy and mesangial matrix expansion, thickening of the glomerular basement membrane(GBM) and functional alteration in the glomerular filtration barrier. The pathogenesis of DN involves many kinds of factors. The relation among angiotensin II (Ang II) , transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-pi), plasminosen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) and nephropathy has already become a focus in this field research. Angiotensin II (Ang II) plays an important role in the pathogenesis of DN. It has been approved that TGF-Pi palys an important role in the occurrence and development of DN. Many studys showed that PAI-1 may be an important role in DN, which is often associated with synthesis and degradation disturbance of collagen IV and laminin(LN).The present study was designed to investgate the renal protective effects by dual Angiotensin II type1 receptor blocker(ARB) Valsartan and LMWH on the expressions of collagen IV, LN and their regulatory factors, including TGF-Pi and PAI-1 in the rat kidneys with diabetic nephropathy and glomerular mesangial cells(GMCs). 1 Effect of Valsartan and LMWH on the level of blood glucose in DN ratsWistar male rats were performed a removal operation of right kidney.
