Objective To make animal models of intratemporal facial nerve injury and find the natural developmental process of the serious facial nerve injury , and to know the optimal time to do facial nerve decompression surgery ,and to discover the recovery rules of the injured facial nerve after the decompression surgery. Methods 1. Made animal models of intratemporal facial nerve injury.200~ 300g female Wister rats(n=32) were survived, the tympanic segment of the bone canal of facial nerve was compressed by minimal forceps.2. After making the models , rats were randomly divided into 4 equal groups which were given decompression surgery in different time: within 3 weeks group, after 4 weeks group ,after 8 weeks group and control group. Control group was done nothing . Decompression surgery consists of removing the crushed bone pieces and incising the epineurial sheath at above-mentioned time.3.Measured the facial nerve threshold current using the NIM-Response made by Medtronic Xomed Company. After facial nerves were paralyzed, rats were measured the threshold current of the bialateral facial nerve to make sure the degree of the injury in the first week. The three surgery groups were measured repeatedly at every four weeks after facial nerve decompression surgery, and control group was measured...
