Currently, the testing and evaluating methods of medical equipments are implemented by the people with periodic structure phantom, and then the performance parameters are calculated with the data based on the image by manual work. With the rapid increase of computed tomography (CT) scanners and widely clinical application of multi-slice computed tomography (MSCT) scanners, and the quantity of image data had been great improvements. So the testing workloads are extremely heavy. Even if we have lots of human and material resources, it is hard to get the permanence of equipment in time. As a result, it was very difficult to have a timely and regular control on hospital equipment. Consequently, in order to implement QA better and the modernization of information processing work for the measurement, it is necessary to implement automatic performance evaluation for the equipments. The purpose of this study is to solve the problems in practice, which is a significant work for the QA system.Starting with analysis on the fundamentals of multi-slice scanning and conventional scanning, the main performance parameters has been studied intensively, and the automatic testing and evaluating methods were proposed as following:1. The test Method of modulation transfer function (MTF). It is simple and immediate to test spatial resolution by periodic structure phantom. But with improvement of CT technique, more and more problems emerge. On the contrary, it is more impersonal, accurate and repetitive by measuring MTF. A simple but useful phantom was devised and the testing results were consistent with the results by CATPHAN 500 considerably.
