[Objective] Observe the effect of needling in Baihui (DU20), Shuigou (DU26) and Shenmen (HT7) on cerebral glucose metabolism and simultaneously clinical signs were observed with PET technology and the scales such as Activities of daily living (ADL) and Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR), Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) were used to assess before and after acupuncture treatment in vascular dementia patients.[Method] Twenty patents suffering from VD were divided into 2 groups randomly and treated by routine acupuncture for hemiplegia, routine acupuncture plus needling in DU20, DU26 and HT7 respectively or simultaneously. Clinical signs were observed, and the scales such as Activities of daily living (ADL), Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR) and Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) were used to assess before and after acupuncture treatment. Five patients in each group were examined by positron emission tomography (PET) in order to detect the glucose metabolism of bilateral frontal lobes, parietal lobes, temporal lobes, occipital lobes, thalamus, cingulate guri, caudate nuclei, lentiform nuclei and cerebellum before and after treatment. The above cerebral regions of interest (ROIs) were chosen and their average glucose metabolisms were counted by half-quantifying analysis way. The parameters were compared by t test.[Result] After treatment, glucose metabolism in affected side lentiform nucleus and healthy side temporal lobe increased in routine acupuncture treatment group;...
