ObjectiveTo observe the effects of electro-scalp acupuncture on cerebral glucose metabolism by positron emission topography (PET) in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients, and compared with the effects of Madopa.Methods1. Ten patients suffered from Parkinson's disease (diagnosed with Core Assessment Program for Interacerebral Transplantation, CAPIT), without serious disease in heart, brain, liver, endocrine and hemopoietic system, psychosis, dementia and hypersensitiveness, were divided into two groups randomly. There was no difference in age, disease course and hoehn-Yahr grade between the two groups. There were five cases in treatment group, treated with electro-saclp acupuncture in MS6, MS4, MS8, MS9 and MS 14 at the same time. There were also five cases in control group treated with Madopa only. All patients were examined with PET before and after 5 weeks of treatment.2. Treatment method: Patients in treatment group received the treatment of electro-scalp acupuncture. Needles (0.30 x 25mm, Global brand) were inserted in MS6, MS4, MS8, MS9 and MS14. Points were chose in the opposite side for single...
