Clinical Observation Of Treating Transient Ischemic Attack With The Method Of "Nourish Kidney Essence And Benefit Liver, Resolve Wind, Phlegm And Remove Blood Stasis To Free The Brain Vessels From Obstruction"

This article systematically reviewed and summed up the theoretical statements and the progress of therapeutic research on transient ischemic attack by ancient and modern medicine and the progress of research on transient ischemic attack about modern medicine. Based on the theoretical views and clinical experience of my tutor on transient ischemic attack, it put forward "the failure of liver and kidney, wind, fire, phlegm and blood stasis form in the body" is the major etiology of transient ischemic attack and "deficiency of kidney essence and liver, Obstruction of the brain due to phlegm and blood stasis" is the basic pathogenic mechanism of transient ischemic attack, and that to nourish kidney essence and benefit liver, resolve wind, phlegm and remove blood stasis to free the brain vessels from obstruction is an important therapeutic method of transient ischemic attack.The patients of transient ischemic attack were selected according to the diagnostic standard of The Sixth scholarship Conference of Traditional Medicine of China Cerebral Disease of internal medicine in 1993,and by the differentiation of syndrome belongs to "deficiency of kidney and failure of liver and Obstruction of the brain due to phlegm and blood stasis". We treated 15 patients by decoction of herbal medicine, which nourish kidney essence and benefit liver, resolve wind, phlegm and remove blood stasis to free the brain vessels from obstruction, and compared with aspirin for 13 patients. Changes of clinical symptoms, blood lipid and glucose were observed before and after treatment. As a result, after all the patients were treated for one course (15 days), the symptoms were remarkably decreased, times of attack were lessened, the blood lipid was reduced. In the treated group 3 cases were cured, 7 cases were markedly effective, 4 cases were effective and the total effective rate was 93.3%, while those in the control group were 2 cases, 4 cases, 4 cases, and 76.9% respectively. There were significant differences between the two groups statistically (P<0.05). It shows that the treatments of Chinese medicine can decrease symptoms and serum cholesterol distinctly ,and can prevent patients from progressive ischemic stroke.
