Objective: To evaluate the preventive effect of genistein by regional perfusion in intimal thickening and VSMCs proliferation and to research the restenosis-preventing mechanism of genistein after balloon angioplasty.Materials and Methods: Thirty male pure breed New Zealand white rabbits, with a mean weight of 2.0-2.3 kilogram, were cathetered trans right carotid artery, and underwent experimental balloon injury in right common carotid artery. Then the rabbits were randomly allocated into treatment group(n=15) and control group(n =15). Genistein was perfused in carotid artery with 0.5mg/ml in treatment group immediatedly after injury. Normal saline was perfused in contol group. The balloon injured arteries were harvested in the 7th, 14th, and 28th days after balloon injury, and cleared with saline constant low pressure (2 atm).
