Purpose: 1) To measure and calculate the diameters of the pulmonary vein ostia by using 16-detector row computed tomography (CT) in the healthy Chinese people. 2) To analysis variations of the main branches of the pulmonary veins in the healthy Chinese people. 3) To calculate the relations between the parameters about thorax and the diameters of the pulmonary vein ostia. 4) To compare the healthy people's diameters of the pulmonary veins with the patients who have atrial fibrillation. Methods: 257 healthy people and 18 patients with atrial fibrillation who were admitted for isolation of pulmonary veins by radiofrequency catheter ablation were adopted in this experiment. Pulmonary vein anatomy was evaluated (257 cases), and the diameters of the pulmonary vein ostia were measured (236 cases, the others have variations). Using the oblique reconstruction to measure the max and mini value of the pulmonary vein ostia (right inferior and superior vein, left inferior and superior vein). If the pulmonary veins were variable, using the MPR to reconstruct to find the variance. The cases were grouped by sex and age. The parameters of the chest were measured to calculate the relation to the diameters of the pulmonary vein ostia. The cases grouped by ages were 3 (18y—40y, 41y...
