Objective:To investigate the various variations of connection between pulmonary vein and left atrium by multi-slice spiral computed tomography (MSCT), and provide anatomic data for clinical application.Materials and Methods:132 patients without the diseases of the pulmonary vein underwent coronary CT angiography were collected, among which 73 were male and 59 were female. The average age was 57±7.3 years(aged 38-76 years). All cases were based on CT axial images, The reconstruction images were used with volume rendering (VR), maximum intensity projection (MIP) and multi-planar reformation (MPR) and etc. To observe the opening numbers of pulmonary vein and the common opening of additional pulmonary vein associate pulmonary vein and pulmonary vein, the rate of various circumstances and various types, the differences between sexes, and the differences between the left and right. Results:The pulmonary veins can be divided into 4 types:standard type is the most common and account for 69.7%(92 cases); additional pulmonary vein type is 12.9%(17 cases), of which 1 case was the left pulmonary vein,12 cases were the right pulmonary vein and 4 cases were the top pulmonary vein; The common pulmonary vein type is 15.1%(20 cases), of which the left side is 16 cases and the right side 2 cases, bilateral is also 2 cases, mixed variation type is 2.3%(3 cases). The variation rate of pulmonary vein is 30.3%. The additional pulmonary vein occurrence rate is 17.8% in male and 11.9% in female, the occurrence rate of the common pulmonary vein is 17.8% in male and 16.9% in female, these sexual discrepancy have no significance of statistics(P>0.05). The variation rate of the left pulmonary vein is15.9% and the right is13.6%(P>0.05).Conclusion:MSCT may find the anatomical variations of pulmonary vein. The additional pulmonary veinoccurrence rate has no difference between sexes. MSCT is helpful for anatomy assessment the relation of pulmonary vein and left atrium, clinical operation and radiofrequency catheter ablation on treatment of atrial fibrillation.
