Objective To study the effect of the Apo B gene 3'VNTR polymorphism on the levels of serum lipids as well as aplipoproteins in the Guangxi Hei Yi Zhuang population. Methods A total of 274 people of Hei Yi Zhuang nationality were surveyed by a cluster sampling. Blood pressure, body height, body weight, serum lipid and apolipoprotein levels were measured, and both body surface areas and body mass index were calculated as a measure of weight relative to height. The genotypes and alleles of the Apo B gene 3'VNTR were determined by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) combined with gel electrophoresis, and then analyzed by direct sequencing in the most common alleles. The results were compared with those in 248 people of Han nationality who also live in that district. Results (1) The alleles of the Apo B gene 3'VNTR in the Hei Yi Zhuang and Han populations: There are 19 alleles of the Apo B gene 3'VNTR in both Hei Yi Zhuang and Han populations. They are HVE24, 26, 28, 30, 31, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52, 54, 60 and 64 in Hei Yi Zhuang, and HVE24, 26, 28, 30, 31, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, 60 and 64 in Han. HVE56 and HVE58 didn't exist in Hei Yi Zhuang and HVE48 and HVE62 didn't find in Han. The most common allele is HVE32 in Hei Yi Zhuang (25.9% of the total alleles), and HVE34 in Han (26.8%). No allele less than 24 was found in two ethnic groups. The frequence of 3'VNTR-B (HVE≥38) is significantly lower in Hei Yi Zhuang than in Han (14.0% vs. 22.2%), but the frequence of heterozygotes (with two different HVE) is significantly higher in Hei Yi Zhuang...
