Vitiligo is a common acquired depigmented dermatogic and mucosal disease. It belongs to the concept of white patch or white patch wind in traditional Chinese medicine. According to the differentiation of syndromes in clinic , vitiligo can be classified into two types : Qi-stagnancy and blood stasis, hepatic and renal yin deficiency. The causes of vitiligo aren' t completely understood now. With the development of immunology and the experiment means, more and more evidences indicate that vitiligo has close correlation with autoimmunity. Prolactin is a classic neuroendocrine hormone. Studys for the past few years have discovered that PRL has correlation with many autoimmune diseases. Some reports indicate that PRL may play a import role in the pathogenic process of vitiligo. Objective : To study the relationship between symptoms of TCM and the level of PRL of the patients with vitiligo .Method : this research adopts radioimmunological methods to determin the level of PRL in blood serum from 50 cases of patients with vitiligo and 50 cases of normal control group. It compares the data of two groups in order to see if PRL is related to the pathogenic process of vitiligo. It adopts the same method to determin the same index between two types of TCM symptoms of patients with vitiligo in order to see if there is significant difference between them. Meanwhile, it compares the data of different periods of patients with vitiligo in order to see if PRL is related to the reactiveness of vitiligo. The statistics are done by SPSS10. 0 software and t test. Results :1. The level of PRL in blood serum of patients with vitiligo is significantly higher than that of normal control group (P<0. 05).2. There is no statistic difference of the level of PRL in blood serum between male and female patients with vitiligo (P>0. 05) .3. The level of PRL in blood serum of patients with vitiligo in progression is significantly higher than that of patients with vitiligo in stationary phases (P<0. 05).4. There is no statistic difference of the level of PRL in blood serum between patients with vitiligo in stationary phases and normal control group(P>0. 05) .5. The level of PRL in blood serum of patients with vitiligo in progression is significantly higher than that of normal control group (P<0. 05).6. There is no statistic difference of the level of PRL in blood serum between normal patients with vitiligo and neural ganglion patients with vitiligo (P>0. 05) .7.The level of PRL in blood serum of patients with vitiligo of hepatic and renal yin deficiency is significantly higher than that of patients with vitiligo of Qi-stagnancy and blood stasis (P<0. 05).8. The level of PRL in blood serum of patients with vitiligo of hepatic and renal yin deficiency is significantly higher than that of normal control group (P<0. 05).9. There is no statistic difference of the level of PRL in blood serum between patients with vitiligo of 0. 05) .Conclusions : This study suggests that PRL may participate in the pathogenic process of vitiligo. The level of PRL in blood serum of patients with vitiligo is significantly higher than that of normal control group. Furthermore, the level of PRL in blood serum of patients with vitiligo in progression is also significantly higher than that of patients with vitiligo in stationary phases. It suggerts that PRL may be related to the reactiveness of vitiligo. The level of PRL in blood serum of patients with vitiligo of hepatic and renal yin deficiency is significantly higher than that of ^/-stagnancy and blood stasis. The result suggests that PRL may participate in the pathogenic process of patients with vitiligo of hepatic and renal yin deficiency. This research studys the relationship between symptoms of TCM and the level of PRL of the patients suffering from vitiligo for the first time. It provides us new idea and method to study the rule of differentiation of syndromes of vitiligo and the improvement of curative effect.
