Experimental Study Of Acupuncture And Embedded Thread Therapy On Obesity

Acupuncture treatment in obesity is very popular for its prolonged effectiveness andcheapness without side-effect. These days, great progresses have been made in thefields of clinical study and experimental research.Object:To explore the curative effect of two different therapies: acupuncture and embeddedthread therapy, and to uncover the nature of acupuncture therapy, our study includestwo aspects: review of researches before and experiments on obesity.Method and contents:Part I:Review the epidemics of obesity and the mechanism, sum up the principle of TCM intreatment of obesity. And review the recent progresses in this field. As we know,obesity is caused by multi-factors, such as heredity, surroundings, and some specialchemical factors. It is kind of complicated chronic disorder of appetite andmechanism. The real obesity mechanism is not clear till now. Now day's medicinaltherapy focus on the energy intake, energy consumption, and energy storage system.Western medicine include: appetite depressor, metabolism accelerant, digestiveinhibitor, Insulin accelerant. But the usage is limited for its disadvantages andside-effects. Acupuncture therapy has its unique advantage. Body acupuncture, earacupuncture and embedded thread therapy are widely used in clinic. And nowresearchers have found that the main mechanism of acupuncture is to regulate theneuroendocrine system and regulate the appetite and lower the blood lipid.Part II:In our study, we also compare the effect of needling and embedded thread therapy toexplore the function of acupuncture in treating obesity on rats. The main indexes areas following: body weight, body length, Lee's index, fat cells' weight, cholesterol andtriglycerides in blood. We use the upper indexes do comprehensive assessment of thedifferent two therapies.Results and conclusion:The main mechanism of acupuncture is to regulate the neuroendocrine system and regulate the appetite and lower the blood lipid. And the embedded thread therapy is more effective than the former. Embedded thread therapy is kind of comprehensive treatment with many advantages such as long-time stimulation.
