The Establish, Evaluation And Application Of Kidney Medical Quality Of Life Scale

Background: The importance of assessment quality of life scale has become more and more apparent along with the change in desease pattern, concept of health and medical model, and the development of economy and the promotion of the people' life. But normative QOL assessment to value the effect of Traditional Chinese medicine therapy with chronic renal failure(CRF) still has not been established, it is expected that with the application of QOL questionnaires for Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) effactiveness to CRF, the effectiveness of TCM therapy will be verified gradually.Objective: The Development of kidney medical quality of life scale (KM QOL) is to be valid reliable and sensive to different characteristic people (such as patins and health people), according to the definition of WHO about QOL and basic theory of Traditional Chinese medicine.Methods: Firstly a theory model was build basing on the definition of QOL given by WHO-QOL group and according to the theory of Traditional Chinese medicine, secondly forming item pool, then selecting items , using the primary scale of the KMQOL carried out a pilot study. A sample of 164 cases was taken fill in the KMQOL questionnaire, the sample covers male and female 64 healthy people and 100 patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) , after appling 5 kinds of methods including expert's judgment, coefficient of variation .principal components analysis and factor stepwise regression, discriminents analysis , Internal consistency analysis , 31 items was picked out. Then, Evaluation with the KMQOL and SF-36 questionnaire was done respectively once before the treatment and after the treatment (at the beginning and end point). Results: There is significant difference between two groups on improving physical functioning, general health, vitality, and mental health, bodily pain, social functioning, and role-emotional (P<0.05) . It seems have better effect on role-physical there is no significant difference though (P>0.05) .Simultaneity, There is significant difference between the beginning and end point on improving bodily pain, general health, stool, emiction, dining and taste , mental and emotion, sleeping and intelligence (P<0. 05) .Conclutions: the treatment of Integrated Traditional And Western Medicine can improve CRF patients' quality of life scale.The above results indicate that the KMQOL has a satisfactory validity.
