Objective: The fracture healing is the reaction of complex repairing process between fragments of the bone. The final result is to recover the normal structure and biomechanical function of injured bone tissue. It is a complex repair process and may be influenced by many factors. These factors may result in delayed union even nonunion of fracture. In recent years, the radiotherapy has been put into preventing heterotopic ossification, along with the widespread application of the artifical joint and the popularization of open reduction and internal fixation, increasing incidence of heterotopic ossification. The effects of radiotherapy on fracture healing in the prevention heterotopic ossification process, which is rarely reported in our country. The objective of our study is to investigate the effect of radiotherapy that is to prevent heterotopic ossification on fracture healing. It will provide reference for the application of radiotherapy in the orthopedic clinic. Methods: One hundred and twenty healthy and mature (twelve to fifteen month old) New Zealand White rabbits weighing 4.0±0.5kg, received a transverse mid-femur opening osteotomy in the left hind limb and its diameter was measured.
